Student-run — since May 2020

Project Hope is a student-initiated VIA group made up of students from schools across Singapore. We work with Make-A-Wish Singapore to raise funds and awareness for children battling critical illnesses.

For Make-A-Wish Singapore$86,728 raised across two Clarus concertsStudents from schools across Singapore

Where the money goes

Everything you pay reaches Project Hope's finance team first. We share our accounts openly with Make-A-Wish Singapore, and once an event's costs are settled the remaining money goes to Make-A-Wish. Donations are tax-deductible either way — give through Project Hope or straight to Make-A-Wish Singapore, and Make-A-Wish issues the receipt as the registered charity. A ticket buys you entry, so it isn't a donation, and donated money never pays for our running costs.

We believe these children deserve to see their wishes and dreams fulfilled, and to look past their limitations with the sky as their only limit.

We do not meet the children whose wishes we help fund, and we do not work with them directly. Our job is to run events and make things that get other young people to care about this cause, and to give.

The longest-running thing we do: each week, our Instagram tells the story of one Make-A-Wish child. Fifty-six wishes told so far.

    Weekly since February 2022

2020

  • Where it started

A handful of students post for the first time as a Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes hopeful, raising funds and awareness for Make-A-Wish Singapore. Macaron sales, hoodie drops and a giveaway carry the first two years.

How we operate

Four working rules

Taken from our own meeting minutes and SOPs.

  1. The cause decides

We pick events for what they raise and who they reach. Looking grand comes second.

  2. Careful with other people's money

We pick finance people for boring reasons: they check twice, answer questions straight, and remember whose money this is.

  3. Show up, and keep it in the room

Members show up, finish what they take on, and keep internal things internal. The group's name isn't anyone's to spend.

  4. Don't burn a company twice

One person owns each company contact, nobody pitches the same firm twice, and we deliver what we sold — which is why partners come back.

Where we come from

Project Hope draws students from many schools rather than belonging to one.

  • The 25-26 EXCO alone was made up of students from ten different schools.
  • Picnic Polaris 2025 was hosted at St Joseph's Institution.
